Hello, just wondering if anyone else has had this problem where the brake drums are very tight upto the backplates... everything is brand new on the pics and i fitted them today to find theyre binding/grinding. what is the best way to fix this? or do i have to get the tin snips out and cut a couple of mm off the backplate?

ive had it on 2nd had parts where people have dam\ged the back plate edges (probably from jacking up under them?)

id just try prying them back a bit with some pliers first, see if that helps

ok ill give it a go, but theyre new, so you would expect them to fit. may have to go back to minisport and let them know.

Are they genuine Superfins or the cheaper copies?

I seriously doubt it!

Are they genuine back plates or copies? no guarantees they don't have too much lip on them.

Although it may be the camera, your two photos suggest the backplates are far from new - my secondhand ones are less pitted from corrosion than your photo suggests that yours are.

I could be wrong, but looking closely at the picture, there seems to be a nut between the trailing arm and the backplate? If this is true, here is your problem, as the backplate should bolt up to the trailing arm with no gap between.

See picture 2 off nuts with red arrows.

My copies did this. I machined a bit off the back of the drum. I think it because the back plates weren't in the best condition.

Looks like its just the reflection Tom. The top picture would at least suggest that it is.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

My genuine ones rubbed, I just 'eased' the backplate to clear with a hammer.

theyre from minisport, the drums were £120 for the pair and the backplates are the kit ones from minsport also. theyre also £120 for a pair built up. they only 2 days old so theyre brand spanking new. and that nut you see tom is a reflection i think. there is nothing to foul on. i think its just dodgy machining from minisports end. :( looks like ill have to take it all off and snip some of the back plate off then BAH!
