i have put new handbrake cables on my mini rio front and back also replaced the drums the shoes have 5mm left on them so didnt replace them i have adjusted the handbrake and it pulls tight but just dosent lock up the rear wheels i have sanded the shoes and drums as to make them rough but still the same it did work until the front cable snapped but since then i have put new backplates ,new cylinders,new drums ,new cables i am out of things to try has anybody had any simmilar sort of problem if so what was the cure thanks john

First off you need to adjust the shoes on the backplate first of all, then and only then do you adjust the cable.

If it is all new bits allow the shoes to bed in for a couple of hundred miles, and then re adjust on the backplate. Then re adjust the cable if needed, this should sort it.

i adjusted at the backplate untill wheel locked up then turned back untill wheel spun freely on both sides then adjusted in the car the leaver only comes up to 3 notches but i can still push the car when it is fully applied i am unable to drive it as i have no mot i am just preppin it for the mot but having lots of problems this is just 1 of many all which i have fixed apart from this 1

I have seen the hand brake mechanism bottom out before, so the handbrake can be adjusted but the shoes wont press against the drum properly.

there are two causes, the notches that the shoes fit into in the handbrake levers worn...

or the notches on the actual shoes being too deep, this sometimes happens on pattern shoes.
