I was fitting my headlining and all was going well until my dad pulled the headling and clamped it smearing some glue above the back screen rubber will sit, Then of course the paint reacted to the glue which then blistered off. My 2grand respray im bloody raging. What glue is safe on paint?, Ive tryed evostick contact adhesive, and also spray glue which both have reacted, Should my paint have reacted so easily. Also is it possible to touch in metallics without respraying the whole rear panal? Cheers for any help in advance

I take it you have cellulose. No glue is safe to use with that

I seriously doubt it!

Somewhere around Swindon

one of my mates scratched my car while helping me fit my screen he went white

i told him not to worry about it and i touched it up, if you willing to accept help then you must accept mistakes that you may not do

I cant believe glue would do that tho.. I thought it being a 2pac finish it would be a lot harder than that!!!!. Cheers for the advice, anyone know what glue to use then?

In my experience 2k (2pac) is resitant to about absoloutely anything apart from paint stripper.

I've used contact adhesive on it with no problem at all.

I use the solvent based stuff, maybe the modern water based stuff is different ??? but I though the water based stuff has to have solvent based laquer on top to protect it.

The reaction you describe really sounds like cellulose has been used.

Try a small bit of cloth soaked in cellulose thinners (or plain acetone) on a hidden area and see if the colour lifts into the cloth. If it does, it's not 2K.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

And yes you can blow in metalic paint to repair damage but you have to laquer the whole panel. I have repaired the paint finish on my roof twice but the critical factor is that I used the same paint to do it with if you dont have the actual paint that was used you may have to paint the whole panel as the flec may be a little off.

Cheers for the suggestions. Im just pissed at the damage a 5.99 tube of contact adhesive has caused!!!!. Will try the thinners test to find out. I bought the paint and it was definatley 2pac...

get a pic up and lets have a look, the sticker guys next to us have a contact remover, but its prity much the same as our solvent panel wipe.

Obviously its fresh paint, if you get most of it off you could allways try flatting it with some 1500 if theres enough on.

Warning fresh paint upto three week old will rub off with solvent based agents it takes atleast a month for the paint to totaly cure try white spirits its the least agressive solvent out there.

wish my painter had bloody told me that. Its definatley 2pac paint he has used. How can it take up to three weekd to fully cure? 2 pac is a chemical process and mine was also oven baked too!, The painter says to use mirka spray glue, any experiances?.

As a rule I will cut back paint 24hrs after painting and do the initial polishing if you leave it any longer the laquer becomes prgressively harder to cut into.

your paint may be cured enough to cut back but if you were to rest somthing on it it would leave an inprint, not so for more aged paint work.

The paint molecules are still moving around as the paint continues to cure which is why after a few months the paint will look a little dull, a quick mop and it will be like looking through glass.

I use to do the second polishing no less than a month after painting but the first cut was done no more than 24hrs after painting.

When I prime a car I leave the primer for a week before putting the top coat on.
