Hi, Just wondering if its possible to just block off the waterways on the cylinder head when dry decking, rather than both head and block?

Ive just build my turbo engine, but after seening 2 friends melt no.4 piston running 12/15psi boost, I didnt really want to strip the bottom end down again to carry out the mods. I know I wont be able to run the car if the head gasket fails (wouldnt anyway).

Can anybody recommend someone to supply and mod my head for me?

you will have to do both for dry deck, this is something that you could do yourself if you have the time and access to some cast iron bar, taps, dies and loctite

you dont need to fully strip it, protect the cylinders from dirt, drill and tap the waterways and fit lock-tited grub screws
done, flush the waterways before you run the engine

Dry decking surley isn't the answer to not melting No. 4 piston.

With a decent CR, correct ignition advance, correct fuelling, efficient turbine and good IC all should be well.

Just planing on dry deck to be safe, I'd rather do the mod now before the engine goes in the car. If is not necessary fair enough, but most people if spoken too seen to recommend it and have had good results, ie turbophil, mike race

Fast Carl turned the hole in my head and spun me some hose tails up for my dry deck conversion. I'm doing the rest myself.

Completely agree about it not being the fix for a badly spec'd engine, but IMHO it helps balance the coolant temperature around the block and head. That can't be a bad thing, can it??

If you only want the cooling benefit, then the easiest thing to do is to plug the block only.
I can machine the head to fit the adaptors if needed.

Yes, but it's far cheaper to buy a dry deck kit & just plug the block.

The cheapest is to open up the heater outlet and route this into the radiator. Job done *wink*

Phil , why plug the block, rather than just the head? I figure that way if I ever needed to fit a standard head all I would have to do is fit another core plug into the block. Phil I will sent you PM about cost and timescale.

I bet my first wank came quicker than your first mini turbo

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

I used normal grub screws on the last block, just tapped deep enough for them to sit just below the surface.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...
