Dont really know what to say so ill just post some pics.

How i got it

Started stripping it down.

Damage cause by the numpty who owned it before me.

Worn counter shaft.

What she looks like now.

All the bushes are worn. Both countershaft bushes and all the bushes in the cross-slide assembly. Did some research and I can get all the bushes and a woodruff key(numpty guy threw it away) for about 20 pounds, bargain. All I need now is to get some shaft to machine up a new countershaft as they are NLA.

Comments welcome.

I'd love a myford!

If only you had a lathe...you could make a new shaft! lol

I love having a lathe, it is so useful once you have one, you find all sorts of things to make.

Well i finally recieved the bushes and woodruff keys.
Made some drifts to make sure they went in square.

Once that was done i stared to assemble the saddle.

Saddle fully assembled.

Ive started making the new countershaft but havent taken any pics yet.

Cheers rich.

I used www.lathespares.co.uk for the bushes and woodruff keys.

Well last night I made a new felt scraper for the front of the saddle.

Fitted.

Then installed the low speed transfer gear(I think thats what its called).

I then wanted to install the spindle, but ive mixed up the shims that go under the upper bearing halves so ill have to work out how to get that right. Anybody have some pointers ?

Then finally, I finished all the turning work on the new countershaft at college today.

A friend of mine is ordering some cutters for work so he might be able to organise a woodruff keyway cutter for me so I can finish this puppy.

Then the only things left are some new oil-lite bushes for the countershaft and some new belts and I should have a working lathe. Cant wait !

Its pretty fooking hard. Its a piece of mini steering rack. I had to use a carbide tip took to cut is as a HSS tool only did about two inches before going blunt.

So the Myford is done now, just need to make a proper bench for it now. another pic.

And this is the first thing ive turned on it.

Its a exhaust stubstack from my 16v project, only 3 more to go.

Ive just bought a myford ml7 the same as yours last weekend.

This chap had bought it brand new in 1956 and only made 1 1/2 models on it and was an engineer in the navy so well looked after and no wear at all, this chap died approx 5 years ago and his son covered it in grease and oil and its been sat, they had a chap come and look at it who offered a cheap price to break it for spares they see my ad (been looking for a while and put ads in the free papers it the south west) rang me and sent some pics they said i can have it for the same money as long as i kept and used as intended.

Got the ml7 4 jaw myford chuck, 4 jaw independant patt burnard chuck, 3 jaw pratt burnard chuck faceplate loads of gears, 2 tins and 2 box's of tools, when i picked it up the bed looked rusty but its just the grease gone a reddish colour and i sraped some off with my nail to get a nice bed surface, there heavy little blighters though my rear suspension struggled on the 98 mile jurney home, i am going to strip mine down clean it and paint it so will put up a thread.

Neil that sounds awesome. A mate of mine inherited a super 7 from his grandfather, and he has a spare 4 jaw he said I could have.
Just have to get used to working in thou and diameter measurements now.

To be fair i dont have a clue how to use it however i am willing to spend the time learning and have family and friends that are engineers/toolmakers (retired)

I think it is awsome lol i was very lucky and patient it was surprising how many really worn out and damaged myford are out there and people ask very good money for them.

I actually was looking for a colchester chipmaster but they took a chance and rang my ad.
