stowmaket suffolk

ive havnt had a decent comp diff yet which has been better than a genuine rover one.

ive used all so called makes and have found that the diametrer of the pin is very slightly thinner than the genuine ones, we are talking microns but it does seem to make a difference. plus the oil slots i dont think work as good as the criss cross set of the gen pin.

this is another reason i think half decent turbo motors realey need 4 pin diffs. as well as sc gears.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

mettyturbos first thread stated that it did not drive but he could engage the gears except 3rd

metty:
my advice to you is remove the btm balljoints
pull the shafts out of the couplings and remove the pot joints

i think it may be possible to remove the diff housing with the engine still in on a metro?

but my advice to you you would be to remove the engine incase you have to go furthure into the problem.

this is the best option*wink*

but some may disagree*surprised*

Hes only just got the engine back in too :(

On that metro i just undid the top ball joints and leaned the hubs, that made them pop out for me to get the pot cup things out.

I was wondering, what gasket do you use for the dif housing? Of just some universal blue?

some of the later metros were glued together with that hideous blue stuff hylomar.

and diff shimming to tolerances were all machined to suit

if you found this before its the above then hylomar

but if not use the gaskets.

good check is, remove the drive shafts as surgested, then grap each output shaft with your hands and then push together and twist in opposite directions if it is nice and smooth then i may sugest it could be somthing a bit more than a smashed diff. as it will go in 3 gears and not in 3rd sugest not a diff as it would be the same for allgears (well in theory any way).

could be a shredded 3 rd gear on either the lay shaft or 3rd on the main shaft.

but i could be wrong but hope you get it sorted.
