well I have just gone to get my hair cut as I am going to NI tomorrow for my bros wedding as I am the best man. Anyway I just ran behind the hair dressers to see a guy in the fabrication shop who is doing some tig work for me, and 5min later I went back to get my hair done. I sat down and she said, "is that your BMW out there?" and I said yes ( as I have been going there every month since I moved here) she said "Oh they have just put a WHEEL clamp on it". I went out to the lad and he said you have to give me £130 now or when the truck gets it will be £350. So I was nice and calm (my Army trg) and why?? have you clamped me then? he said as I was not using the shops where the car was parked. So then I said how can you prove to me this is all above board and his assistant said I have a badge!!! I was thinking what the fuck! am i on the real hussle here? Anyway I called the firm and paid the cash and now I am down £137.00 as the bird in the shop gave me OAP discount for the hair do. What a bag of balls !!!!

Report them to Trading Standards, get the hairdresser to do you a simple letter saying you were in their "shop" (if you got a till receipt for the haircut that would probably do) and start a claim in the Small Claims Court (now on-line).

Apparantly it's soon to be illegal in England anyway (already is illegal in Scotland) so the small Claims Court should easily rule in your favour.

all this just after the hype in the press about this too.

thank god they outlawed it in Scotland years ago

try a nice letter first - idle threats wont work so make sure your prepared; could the girl in the hairdressers not say you were in the shop all the time.

might also be worth a letter to the landlord - they will have 'appointed' the clampers so if they are chasing the customers off then they might be interested as well

I sad this would be the last time i get my hair cut there. Its just the lads from the camp who go there but as its next to the train to london people park in the 6 spots and do one. There was a cab offce next door and they put one on a cab out side has office. Its mad

Ok then I have just had a call out of the blue from the guy who is the owner of the barbers. He has just found out what has happened today and it has happened before. He went to find out if my mate at the fabrication shop has my number. He is going to call the owner of the clamping firm in the morning to get my cash back. Tip top

Break the clamp or tyres down drive out they can't stop you.
As for what you can do now revisit the scene is there a clear warning sign that explains you can get clamped for that reason if not or there is no sign report the company to the local officials or small claims court and they will have to give you a refund as they have no leg to stand on and should not have taken the money in the first place
If the sign is there make sure you were within the clamping rules upon it if yes again same process

It was the chain clamp and there was a A4 sign and the company are backed by the council.

the wheel clamp guy was waiting for me in his van, told him i could get it off without damaging it and give it to him to ovid the releace fee 150! he said they would send the balifs.

so i call the fuzz to see where i stand and was told i had to pay and it was an offence to remove it if i can recall.

Sure I seen it on Tele when they were talking about it thy unless they are council officials or the police they can't do anything if you can't get out without breaking it! And if they try make you pay through balifs then its extortion
I am sure that's the loophole around it. As for the fuzz unless they get money out of it or someone gets hurt they won't give a hoot!
Besides its all irrelevant if they can't prove you were there!
