Hopefully this doesn't just apply to the few of us using fuel injection......

Even the standard Metro pump or the aftermarket Bosch copy ones people use for the SU carb generate a lot of pressure.

So where do you mount the inertia cut-off switch ???

It needs to be on something solid otherwise it won't be affected by an impact but I would like it reasonably accessible as I suspect the "hard" nature of the Mini suspension might produce a few random trips.

I put mine on the B pillar behind the drivers seat. Solid mounting and easily accessible should you need to reset the switch.

Wiring is on route to the fuel pump as well.

The poxy fibreglass dash I have ordered but the tosser didn't actually have one to send would probaly fall apart on an impact without transferinng enough load to the inertia switch to even disturb it, let alone operate it *happy*

I was thinking A pillar rather than B (but both are solid) but my wiring to the pump is passenger side, so both out of reach.

The standard Rover/Ford inertia switches have C/O contacts so can send a "tripped" signal if you wire them up right - Rover/Ford never bothered. I bought my inertia switch (standard Rover one) off ebay but any good scrapyard would provide the same.

Run a couple of cables back to the switch. To be honest I had forgotten the switch was there!

Plenty of alternatives then....

Has anyone had one of them trip going over bumps, potholes etc ???

I presume the trip mechanism inside is better rated for cars with softer suspension.

I run one on my race car with rock hard suspension - it has never triggered by accident only when I spun into gravel!

Warning there is some swearing *hehe!*

Note: upon looking over the car in daylight, the off side bump stop on the front was missing, so I suspect the top arm hit the subframe tower, and with the solid mounts, generated the right kind of shock which went right through the car. We felt it, as you can hear in the vid, but the bump itslef was no more than a slight dip on a repair in the road. I never knew the engine had stalled as the car was on over run, until we turned into the junction, but in the vid you can see where the oil light comes on. Took me a bit to work out what was going on, the engine being fresh, thinking it might have been a gremlin *laughing*

Oh and having the inertia switch under the bonnet on the nearside bulkhead, is a royal pain in the arse, when its dark, cold wet and windy. It can also lead to you forgetting to strap down the bonnet and driving off quickly with the resultant lack of vision but only for two triangular wedges at the upper corners of the windscreen. I am sure there are a few who know what I am taking about *hehe!*

Old thread I know but can you get inertia switches that you can manually turn on and of like a normal switch?

I like the idea of having a secret switch for security and in emergency situations.

Use the Rover one. Just give it a sharp knock and it’ll trip.

Hi Josh, you really need an inertia switch in case of an accident mate.
I basically put an inline switch into the wire that is going through the car to the pump which is after the inertia switch.
My inertia switch is fixed to my bulkhead and has only ever tripped off once when I launched over verge while going too fast 😣.

You need to have a big accident to trip it. Mine didn’t go off despite getting thrown 4 foot in the air.

If you are clever, you can wire a warning light to the third terminal on the switch so you know it surely has tripped and not spend half an hour at the road side wondering why the car won’t start 😆

I do already have a normal switch that I turn off when parked up etc. Just thought I could fit one switch if possible, to keep things simple as possible.
I'm re doing some electrics to neaten it up and make a bit safer lol.
My headlight wires had started to melt due to previous owner bodges. So I'm uprating a few bits.
