The general consensus is that it is a race head. This is because of the huge inlet ports. It doesn't produce the grunt it should. This is the AKM/Minisport version. On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

The ports are a decent size on SC's head, I sugest you look at that, much easier to inject too with the injector pockets on the head.

I have 2 heads from Pierce..... One is like number 48 of the first 50. This is stock as it comes from Pierce with fairly rough inlet ports and the larger spark plug. The second one is the medium version (hillclimb?) from MED of the same head. Larger intake valves, nicely port matched inlets to the weber 40's, exhaust ports cleaned up, the funky new 8mm spark plugs, and MED's 1.5 rocker setup. Seems to have good pull on the top end....a bit better feel in the ass than my Calver GT spec head with the weber 45 on the short Maniflow and 1.5 swiftune rockers. One major change that is hard to compare is that I had the 286 scatter cam with the Calver head and a 276 Kent with the 7 port. Bottom end off the line is a dog....hard to even break the tires loose, but over 2500 and it lights up....I top it out at 6500.

Also forgot to mention that the Pierce head has room to skim to raise compression if desired.....hence the change to the 8mm plugs. Talked to Mike Pierce himself and he felt it was somewhat unneccesary, but he has guys running it at rediculous compression ratios on race cars up to 15:1...including some testing by Joe Huffaker among others.

I'm just in the process of building my 7 port. It's the same casting as the MED one, but suppield from Webcon. It's currently been bench flowed and will be fully ported and run bigger valves suitable for fast road. I am planning to run 11-1 CR with SW10 Cam. Hoping for 110-120bhp from 2 webers (40,s) Class C 3rd Place Avon 2011 14.18 @101mph |

Thanks Joe....I do have a set of the stock length as well, so I may do that now that major tuning is done. Main problem (even thought it looks like a huge gap) is that I would have needed to pull the carb completely off to fit the chokes as I was playing with that a bit...now that I have settled on the 32's, the longer trumpets would probably be good. Just need to figure some sort of filtration....

why not get one direct from Pierce? I got mine at beginning of year a lot cheaper that way. Something like £900 all in, inc shipping and tax. |

No chance, your car is awesome.

) is to do something like MED's Jenvey throttle body setup as it can really fine tune the bottom end that the weber's just can't seem to do and they can also handle boooooost!
