Well, all this threat of en masse strike action in the last week or so, got me thinking.

As a result of strike action in the 70's and 80's, we now have no steel industry, coal industry, car industry, ship building industry. Does this mean that if the threat of strike action on public sector services will bring an end to the NHS, rail travel, the fire service and public schooling?

I don't think there is any truth in the 'Mersey Disease' its more like a 'British Virus'

IMO, the closures of major steel works in the last 30 years such as Meadowhall, Consett, Redcar and Motherwell was the closure of 'British steel'. Maybe I am being too critical?

when was the last time you saw a steel works open instead of close.


While some smaller steel works still produce, its not what it used to be now is it?


I would like to be proud that we can mine coal and iron to produce steel, then make cars from that steel, by British workers, in 'Great' Britain. It's not going to happen, well, not in my lifetime at least.

oh, and before I forget, we wouldn't have piles fo scrap iron like this if there was a steel, car and ship industry that needed it. Instead, it gets shipped to China.

Now this may seem a sweeping statement but , but it always looked to me that anyone employed in such an industry as car manufacturing shipbuilding ,mining or any large factory enviroment, that the company owed them a living whatever the weather,
no matter how much tossing it off and throwing sickies they could cram into the working week,

iv'e been self employed for 24 years and earned every penny if received the hard way, well nearly lol.
