hi, got a timken sc idler. took it appart today to clean bearing.

I noticed that i could move the outher bearing shell around inside the gearwheel on bot sides??
ques thats not normal, coz normaly you have to use hammer or press to get them in, like a wheel bearing.

2. do the gearbox and transferhousing need modifying for use of such a idler?

3. i thought the space between the bearing and the transferhousing are a little big, diam of the bearing is 34,6 mm

thanx

No bearing race should spin or move
No mods needed other than bearings removed
Should fit snuggly or it is wrong!

MMM mabey i chasing ghost here.... but if i measure a brand new torrington idler bearing its 34,8 mm. I need a little hammer to pressfit them in the gearbox and transferhousing ( wich are both 34,60mm). The timken idler measures 34,53 on both sides. In my opinon it has a loose fit, would it mean the timken idler is gone ( its a used one) . or would the transferhousing prees it hard enough against the gearbox in the end|??? *Confused*

timken are regarded as very good bearings but if you have a new set of jk drops and bearings just whalop them things in, jk are regarded as one of the best and thus i would presume the bearings are upto scratch

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

the bearing outer! race is............ an interference fit in the gear. if the bearing is ok and i would say there is a good chance it is, i would bearing fit " high strength" the bearing back in the gear you will be ok then.

the boss of the idler needs to be bonded use medium strenth into the gearbox casing so it doesent move but...... not in the clutch cover end ... so you can remove it on strip down

hope this makes sense to you
