Hi guys

Firstly I am begining to regret fitting this damn turbo engine,
I had a nasty smoking turbo which went off to turbo technics for a rebuild. ?300 later i re-fitted it back to the car, wow it went like a rocket and didnt smoke. but that was last week.I have just got back from a little run out in the car(about 20 miles) and it sounds very very nasty.
the turbo whirs up as i accelerate then when it gets up to full boost (0.5 bar) its sounds like someone has thrown a bag of washers into the bearings and seems to be a bit under powered too.
then the same thing on the next gear
I change gear at around 4500-5000 rpm so im not razzing the nuts off it.

I havent had a look at it tonight as its dark and im very very p1ssed off.

any ideas for tomorrow of what to have a look at ?
Cheers guys

Rob

LOL it sounds like pinking

The best way i describe this sound is "shaking a load of nuts and washers in a tin can"

Check your mixture, timing and if these are spot on Turn the boost DOWN

YOU can destroy your engine with pinking *indifferent*

are you sure your hearing a turbo noise... they only wistle... even when fubar they just whistle increasingly loudly untill they make no boost at all!

the engine on the other hand can make all manner of noises!

sounds like a colapsed bearing in the turbo... I had this 100 odd miles after fitting a re-conditioned unit... Luckilly, they accepted the failure, and rebuilt it FOC...

Take off the air pipe and have a feel of the compressor whel float with your fingertips...

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

Dont do it too tight. There should be some give or you'll knacker the alternator bearings. Cant remember how slack though.

If it slips then its probably a case of having an old belt on thats gone hard.

*happy*
