Just thought i'd come along and say Hi.

I'm in the process of getting things together to build my small bore supercharged engine.

I know most of you guys and gals on here are more turbo orientated but your a wealth of blown information and will more that definatly be ablke to answer most of the questions I have.

The spec I am going for is:-

998 + 0.030 (think it works out at 1023cc)
12g295 head (unskimmed origional)
MG Metro Cam
SC12 charger Blow through set up
Metro Turbo Carb
Megajolt ignition

The pistons I have, have a 6cc dish in them to so should help with the compression ratio.

Anybody see any problems with the above?

Sure i'll be along soonish to ask more questions.

Hello and welcome.

You don't need a turbo carb as it's suck through. Have you got your charger and the manifolds from Ben as the chargers are quite rare.

I'm going blow though as I don't like the idea of petrol being drawn through the charger as all it will do is strip the oil off the vanes. As for the charger. I was lucky enough to win it on eBay Australia. Wanted something smaller than an e45.

I should wake up before I start typing...

Should be interesting

Hiya

If your pistons are only 6cc are you getting your chambers enlarged to lower the compression?

no need with an unskimmed 295 i don't think? they have big chambers as std?
not too hot on small bore stuff though so ready to be corrected.

The unskimmed 12G295 will give 9:1 with flap topped pistons. It already has 28cc chambers.

So using the dished pistons will take you down to 7.7:1 which is too low even for a supercharger.

Are you going to use an intercooler with the blow through? makes all the difference. The only reason to reduce the compression ratio on a forced induction engine is because of the heat added to the incoming air by the charger. Remove most the heat and you can use 9:1 compression ratio up until about 1 bar boost.

If youy already have 6cc pistons, then you could get away with a skimmed 12G295 which is more readily available.

I am planning to run an intercooler, I already have the head, will have to double check the pistons, I worked the ratio out a bit higher. Maybe they are a 3cc dish.

Thanks for all the info so far. Only planning on running about 10 - 12 psi so don't think heat will be too much of an issue.

It's my first dip into the realms of forced induction so not sure of a few things but my answers are slowly getting answered without me even asking a question.

The only readily available pistons at +0.030" that I'm aware of are the 20773 or Minisport.Aus equivalents. I'm pretty sure that these have a 6cc dish.

"Only" 12 psi on a supercharger at say 60% adiabatic efficiency will raise the inlet temps to 120 degrees C.

A good intercooler will take that down to around 15-20 degrees C above ambient. Plus it will give you around 30 hp more. Plus you can safely run 9:1 CR.

Thanks for all the info mate. Much appriciated. I'll get the head skimmed to bring the comp ratio up a bit.

The aim for the engine is to try to make a nice daily diver with around 100hp so I may find I can drop the boost a little.

Thanks for the welcome and thanks againfor the advice so far.
