Hi,

Sold a CWP to an Aus, I was quite happy that it was in good condition. Posted to him he left me pos feedback now is moaning about the case hardening on one tooth of the pinion being buggered.

Obviously I'm reluctant to have it back as it will be £30odd quid in postage.

Here are some pics of it would appreciate some "expert" opinions.

Depends if he's talking about the pitting/corrosion visible in all the photos or the scoring, only visible in pic 005.

It's allways hard to judge from photos, ie, how deep is that pitting/corrosion ??? - it could be as a result of poor case hardening, or it could just be bad storage. The scoring is more likely debris dragged through.

But the obvious question is did he see all those photos before he bought it or just low resolution ones on eBay ???

If he saw all those photos and still bought it, he has only himself to blame IMO.

Just basic ebay pics. I didn't see anything wrong with it when I put it up for sale but then again I didn't examine is mega closely.

Any idea of the intended use? If it were for anything less then a monster motor then I would still use it.

Is anyone willing to offer an opinion on the condition of the CWP? I personally would have just cleaned it and chucked it in, but hey what do I know?

As I implied earlier, it has pitting, corrosion and scoring from what I can see in the high-res photos.

But no-one can tell how bad it is just from a photo.

For anything of that age, you could expect all three, but how serious is impossible to tell from a photo alone.

It's caveat emptor for stuff of this age, if you didn't provide the decent photos on eBay, he should have asked for them.

He's already left positive feedback meaning he was happy with the product.

I'd personally forget it, sounds like he's trying his luck.

The trouble is he/she can still start a claim even after leaving positive feedback.

A claim after positive may not be as succesfull as a "clean" one after no feedback but a claim all the same.

I have had someone purchase a faulty graphics card off me via eBay, they left positive feedback and now two weeks later have decided that actually the item did not arrive and they have raised a case up requesting a refund.

Sounds like this chap is trying to pull a fast one like my graphics card buyer.

Not sure how eBay are going to see it though...

My best advice for cases where your left feedback then a claim is made is call ebay up, so an actually person can sort the case out for you rather than an automated machine.

The question shouldn't be , can he use this dif??

If he can ,all's right, just explain him that this damage will not change the dif structure, and so he's free to use it or not, but not from a dif fault.

Then if this one can brake from this damage and bugger him a complete engine , he's right to not agree about spending 85 £ just thru the window.
