hi there as you can see in the pictures there a tapped hole just before the manifold, any ideas?

Don't know why they've been done but they sure as hell aren't meant to be there.

Far too small for anything other than a thermocouple or pressure tapping.

What's the idea of the thermocouple? |

Thermocouple(s) are used to measure temperature, especially for very high temperatures like exhaust gases. up to 1,200 centigrade or more.
