Right does anyone have any tips of how to remove panels which have been plug welded on?

I have tried drilling them off but its not working very well, you can drill through but i cannot seem to split the two panels and the holes are getting quite large. I want to get them off with the least damage possible to them.

Any tips or advice?

Have you tried proper spot weld drills?

I've found a wipe over a seam with a grinder with a sanding disk will show where the spot welds are, then you can spotweld drill them quite accurately.

Yeah i have tried a spot weld drill, unfortunatly the plugs are larger than the spot weld drill. Will try the chissle method if there is no other way but it has been well welded together.

I used an 8mm spot drill and found it did most welds with no trouble, did yo get a 6mm one? I can imagine they woyld be too small.

All of my panels are seam welded and spotted, its a right ball ache! Ive found the only way is to attack the panel that you're replacing and try and leave the other one in tact. *oh well*

The only other way would be use a carbide burr, but then the hole will still be massive. I use a 6mm grind stone on its edge, grind it as far as you can then use some kind of grips to crack it, then it just pulls off.

I have being using a combo grinding into the spot with a cutting disc carefully not do cut into the panned you want to save, then use a sharp small masonry chisel, to take of the remainder, works quite well if your handy with the grinder.

Well i recon the weld holes are at least 10mm, my spot weld drill is 8mm. Im wondering if my plasma cutter would work but thats what i will try last.

I've had good results going over in a criss cross pattern with a slitting disk in the grinder then taking a chisel to it.

I use a metal spatula sharpened along one edge hitting the back side with a hammer. It takes a little time but causes the least amount of damage to the panels especially if your taking the front end off to convert to a steel flip
