With an SC and a maximum rpm no higher than 6 to 6.5k I wouldn't bother. Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

Don't bother. It's said that it helps on high revving engines (not yours) but this is never really proved, and I know several people that has stopped using them. Including som very professional race engine buiders. On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:
Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem. |

The strap causes more problems than it does good. The main problem is getting both the strap and cap flat when its torqued down. if you fit a strap, it should be line bored, but most dont and put up with the slight cap distortion. If the crank does not nip up, then fine, But I have seen too many where the cap nips up on the crank, and all it needs in most instances is to invert the strap and its fine, indicating something is not quite right with it. Is it A-Series only? I think it should be... So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'... On 26th Oct, 2004 Tom Fenton said:

I've had one made for my block. Fast Carl did it. Both mating faces machined in his mill. His advice was to use grinding paste between the two to ensure a proper mated surface On 11th Feb, 2015 robert said:

Nick G - so far I've not needed anything, highest rev limit I have had has been 6300. and my bottom end was built in 1969 I would guess the engine has done about 9k with the SC I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

I think more people fit straps than need to, possibly for bragging rights. Done properly is some insurance on a competition engine. as an earlier contributor has said, 7000+rpm occasionally does not need this -I,ve used 7300 so far without a problem on a standard Midget crank ,rods , caps and bolts. |
