This is the data logging from my ecu while on the rolling road. So the air intake temps should be a little lower. The air temp here is taken after the intercooler. I will be taking some more readings soon, before the intercooler.

very interesting... I'm going to do some base line testing on my std engine I think... would be interesting to see the differences!

At 13psi and 5000 rpm the charge air temp from my T2 was 120 degrees (the max my gauge could read)!

The intercooler drops this to 28 degrees max on the open road at this boost...

I am interested to see what a T3 does by comparison!!!

Taken from the 'Engine Specs' Post...
Intercooler:
RST series 2 modified unit sat behind the grill, not half behind grill & half behind bonnet front! (this took a lot of time to get in). Typical air temps seen are as follows:- steady 50mph = 10 degrees c; full boost 50mph = 30 degrees c, max recorded air temp after 1/4 mile run = 38 degrees c. Anything else?

bloody hell!!!
as dave, your running the same turbo as me, (Renault 5) and at simular boost levels, my ecu was only seeing 30?C, we can assume that my intercooler is at least dropping 90?C!! Not a bad intercooler!

can you confrim for sure its a completely std T2?
Whats it off?
Do you know the ARs of the exh and compressor housings?

Do you mind if I do this?!?!?!

It is clear that cooling down to around 40 degrees is dead easy, even for a small intercooler.
The problem is trying to drop it any more - as you approach ambient air temp... As you can see, the HUGE TD5 intercoler drops the air temp that little bit further - especially as Jim is seen to run a higher boost than my 13psi (I usually run 16psi) according to his pressure sensor...

This isn't telling the whole story however - as Jim and me both know that the air temp leaving the small compressor is superheated... just because the intercooler is appearing to reduce the air temp by this margin, it doesn't mean it is a cool dense charge - just that it is a cool charge...

right done some excel work and come to some concluions...

After 1bar you are running a T2 miles of its map, I'm looking for a compressor map at the moment to confirm this. But basically you've hit the limit of the turbo and after about 4,500 rpm on Jim's your hitting the limit of the turbo, which is why at that point the ACTs rocket.

Intercooler efficiency looks good, but the turbo is being run in a seriously inefficient part of the map... basically a hybrid turbo would see big gains for you Jim.

Alex, sorry I don't know the a/r of the turbo off the top of my head, all I know is it's a late Renault 5 turbo (water cooled)
What spec hybrid turbo would I need? Can you email me a copy of the turbo maps for the t2?
