Don't know where that diagram came from but it isn't "positive switched" as per it's title, it's ground switched (most ECUs switch to ground).

Standard oil pressure switch grounds when there is no oil pressure so if the relay coil is fed with 12V (as per the diagram) and the other side connected to the standard oil pressure switch, the relay will operate when there is no oil pressure (just like the warning light glows with no oil pressure). If the relay is then a four pin (no 87a) then the pump will only run with no oil pressure, the opposite of what you want. I hope that makes sense..... Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ??? |

The relay depicted does exist. It just has an extra 87 pin.

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be... So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'... On 26th Oct, 2004 Tom Fenton said:

Why are you using the oil pressure switch? Use an ignition live straight to the relay and put an inertia switch in the circuit. |

smudger ill draw you up a circuit for using oil pressure as the controlling factor for the fuel pump as I'm doing this with mine. |

Sorry to interupt this discussion, i have an MG Metro turbo and the fuel pump is not coming on when you turn the ignition on but it was before the battery went flat. I have located the fuel pump relay but i cant find the fuse that powers it... if it is located in the main fuse box the fuse is ok because i checked them all!! Oh and just to clear things up, the pump is a competion pump which was brand new less than 12 months ago!
