Hello everyone,

I am getting to the stage of my mini restoration where I need to start thinking about wiring loom for my 1990 turbo mini saloon

I have an old wirking loom that was totally crap and messed around with by the previous owner.

I also have a few things different on my mini like mk1 rear lights, mpi tank, metro turbo engine, rear mounted reverse light, centre speedo, megajolt ect.

I was wondering if anybody on here made custom wiring looms at all?

This would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks

Miles

Somewhere around Swindon

dont bother there reasonable to buy and light connectors are easy to swap, i made a small seperate loom for my ecu and fuel pump seperate to the main loom this way fault finding is easier so are upgrades

I sort of am for mine.
I like to understand things properly (especially when I'm building it all myself) so I've decided to redo the loom.
Like you, I'm adding some bits in and changing bits about.
I also want it to look neat.

Basically pulled my old loom out, split it up, labelled each wire by using the wiring diagrams in the Haynes manual.
Asked some questions on here, asked my Dad some questions (he's an electrician) and now I've ordered a few bits to start and will just plod on slowly as I go. I'm in no rush as the car is barely done so it's something I can do in the evenings in my room.

If you can get your head round the wiring diagram it becomes a lot easier. And instead of seeing all the plugs, look at the wires individually and what it is they do.

Excellent. I'll have to start designing.
Would a donor loom be useful for some connectors etc if I am to maintain standard switches, clocks etc?

Donor loom would work out cheaper so I could use connectors (once checked they are ok) as new connectors can bump the price up to a silly amount
