Hey all, im trying to get robs british open running right, initially it was down on power and running really rich and coking up the plugs, i had the head skimmed and new head gasket fitted as it was down on compression on all bores,
While getting it mot'd the CO level was quite high so got it through by leaning it down a bit.

However it had a BEJ needle in the HIF44 which had been masacred with an angle grinder so i replaced it with a BDL to get the fueling somewhere better as its a std MG Metro 1275 with stage 1 but running megajolt and an mpi rad setup, the fueling has been set to 13.7 at idle on the afr gauge but anything over 1500rpm it starts going lean up to 17% and even off the scale!

Ive now replaced the BDL with a BBW to richen it further but im still getting the lean mixture, so i cant drive the car anywhere at the mo, any suggestions what to look for, ive checked for air leaks and nothing is noticeable? Im in the process of servicing a replacement carb and rob is hopefully going to plug the megajolt in? but am i missing something else?

Help greatly appreciated!!

Gaz

Are you sure it's the gasket gone? All the valves are good and sealing? Chuck some oil down the bore turn it over and do the comp test again

Resident Cylinder Head Modifier

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

the cause will be pre ignition DETONATION what keeps taking the head gasket out here
cure is compression ratio for the fuel octain your running and or ignition timing too far advanced and a lean mixture,

but firstley check the head so its not warped UNLIKLEY ! and the block deck as again unlikley

use another torque wrench as yours may well be yealding before the the correct torque,

use 55 ft pounds on the head bolts only

hope this helps
