Boost valve wiring on MG Metro turbo

Does anyone know how the wiring should be on a metro turbo boost valve? I have checked the ECU and I am getting a signal from the coil and it is operating the standard boost gauge. I also have a perm live to the valve in the engine bay (I had hoped/assumed it would be switched by teh ECU at 4psi/4000 rpm) but there appears to be no earth. When I apply an earth to the other side the valve opens OK. I have followed the earth wire back and which shares it's earth with the brake fluid warning. Is the earth switched on boost?
