Because the valves don't centre and wear out. On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

Because the valves don't centre and wear out. Fair enough for a road engine. Do many people building race engines use 30 degree seats? Nial. |

the design shows a distinct lack of imagination, talk about starting off with a clean sheet of paper, then not bothering to fucking draw on it,lol On 20th Apr, 2012 Paul S said:
I'm mainly concerned about swirl in the runners caused by the tangential entry. |

Don't people use 3-angle valve seats? Yes, but he's reffering to the actual valve seat being 30deg not the usual 45. |

most inlet valves come cut with 45 degree seats which have to have extra material added to them (Stelite) then reground to the new 30 degree angle. If the back of the valve is cut at 45 degrees then you can get a 30 degree seat just by removing material. The head might need work to achieve 30 degrees without sinking the valve, though if you were getting seats replaced this shouldn't add much. ? Nial. |

I agree with Nial. This should not be expensive if fitting new seats anyway or OS valves. On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:
