Hi all,

Had a bit of an argument today so I need somthing clearing up.

Which is the best block to use for an all out race turbo motor?

A+ or GT?

Need some others opinions so I can win myself a pint :)

Some say A some say A+

I think A+

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

i believe the A block were made of a higher grate material, and the A+ was designed to increase stiffness ( so a lower grade material can be used )

my choice would be A+ but only because i always have, others will argue the A block is better but why? i think you can get a 74mm bore in it where as that is pushing an A+ abit too far

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

I don't think there is a right or wrong answer to this. There are no horror stories of either A or A+ blocks wearing or breaking. It just seems preference based on rumour.

It is what looks the best in your stock pile. Don't bother looking for a specific block. Just think of the myths surrounding the metro turbo block that still exist in some circles.

The only issue I'm aware of - from reading on here and in Vizard - is most of the pre-Aplus blocks have a void in the casting above the centre main bearing that makes them weaker at sustained high RPMs (Vizard talks about blending out all the casting marks in that area if you are going to use one). But as a turbo motor runs lower RPM it shouldn't be an issue.

I chose Aplus to be on the safe side and have two perfectly good A blocks I'm waiting to scrap as a result.....

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

Not all have that Roderick.

Also, there is nothing special about a gt block. It is exactly the same as any other non s 1275 a series block. For example the allegro...

The a+ block in my opinion, is highly unlikely to be a lesser grade. The strengthening ribs are only there to retain rigidity after they removed so much metal. The casting uses less naterial, meaning its cheaper to make, meaning they can make more of them for the same price. The A+ block is lighter by my reckoning.

Who will take the challenge and weigh a bare A block and compare it to a bare A+ block and post up the findings? *happy*

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

new block for the 7 port, got a set of accralites and found they will be baggy in the block so going to go with a fresh one, just modding it for oil jets, a 4 bolt main, dry decking, etc
