Australia oi oi oi!

i have bought a new high torque starer & light flywheel set up for verto & verto starter.

i know they are they right matching pair.

it seems to grab & start then some times, it is slipping & not grabbing, if i turn the key a bit & then it grabs on all of a sudden & then boom! flicks the car into life.

what i have been told that this can some times happen?
if it does it is best to take the starter of & put some grease on the gear?

it will help it locate properly?

Am i making sense? im not sure, im going to pull the starter out tomorrow to have a look

When you say you know they are a matching pair, do you mean just the correct number of teeth (the usual problem) or are you absolutely sure the axial position of the pinion to the ring gear is correct as well ???

Some of the conversions require spacer plates to get the axial position right.

im having the same problem with mine. Its the standard starter motor but does the same thing. Struggles to turn over and i think thats what is killing the battery as it almost stops, then wil turn a few times then stop or make that weird noise as if its spinning of the fly wheel or something. Dont want to take the starter off as i dont really know what im looking for!

I bought it from Med with the flywheel assembly as a package.

This Starter Motor has been designed for use with our Ultra & X-lite flywheels. The starter motor produces up to double the amount of cranking power over the standard stock unit. Drawing less current enables the starter motor to turn over any high compression race engine with ease.

Please note that this is a brand new unit and not remanufactured as other types that are available

Combined together with our verto steel flywheel and our heavy duty clutch cover and steel clutch centre, fully balanced as a rotating assembly.
What you get in this package
• MED U-L verto steel flywheel
• MED H/D turbo verto clutch cover
• MED verto clutch centre
• Solid clutch plate

i have a new battery great cranking power just the starter is not locking on like it should.

Have you been in touch with MED? If the starter is faulty, they should provide you with a warrenty replacement.

I would ring MED and ask which ring gear is on your flywheel and what pinion on the starter.....

If you read the description, as you quoted, it says for the starter "This Starter Motor has been designed for use with our Ultra & X-lite flywheels."

Which is one of these
http://www.med-engineering.co.uk/product_d...=39&vlang_id=83

But the flywheel kit you have bought includes "MED U-L verto steel flywheel" - the key word being Verto whereas the one they quote the starter to operate with is PRE-Verto.

However, it says the pre-verto can be fitted with either ring gear, it doesn't say the same for yours, and the starter motor description doesn't say which pinion it has. Although the standard pre-engaged starter has the pinion to operate a verto ring gear, they may have been aiming this starter motor (from its description of working on a pre-verto flywheel) at people who are set up for an inertia starter.

You say you know they are matched but the only way to be sure is either count the teeth on both flywhel and starter pinion or phone up MED and ask exactly which bit of each they supplied.

Edit - grammer.

interesting.

my Starter is a verto starter.

i compared the pitch & teeth it does not look the same as mine.

my old smoggy starter still works & there is no crunching at all..

there is something wrong with the starter for sure,

Rod they do come as a matching pair according to MED i took it off there was no problems.

i might just be unlucky & it just does not fit.

bugger!

By the sound of it either the flywheel has the wrong ring gear, or the starter the wrong spur gear. Either way MED need to sort it out.
