i just found a thread which i am not sure if i read correctly but i have now lost the thread (laptop lost battery)

it was about removing weight form internals of the engine and in effect it is like removing X amount of weight from the body?

Its a basic rule, that you can achieve similar improvement in acceleration by either removing weight from the car, or, by removing weight from the rotating parts of an engine. the difference between the two is not as clear cut as some will have you believe. However, for the sake of argument, if you removed 1kg of weight from the rotating parts of an engine, similar gains could be had by removing 10kg from the car, yet the engine has produced no extra HP.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

so say if i fitted a lightened flywheel (minispeed £35 exchange one) and a alloy back plate how much weight will i save also what performance gains can be confirmed on 10kg of body weight?

You wont see any major gains to talk of from losing 10kg of body weight, but if you fit a good lightweight flywheel you will notice engine response which will give a small improvement in accelleration.
You only get big gains from losing larger amounts of weight

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

Unless you are on an extreme weight saving you will see little benefit from the alloy backplate. The only gain in general terms is by loosing weight from ROTATING engine components. when you start getting to the extremes of weight saving, EVERY little bit counts. The backplate on its own will do nothing for performance. That is not to say it is of no benefit!!

Paul, while the numbers I quote may not be correct the theory is. while the engine produces no extra HP, fitting a lighter flywheel, the HP that would have been absorbed (stored) accelerating the rotating parts of the engine, is now freed up and can now be seen as improvement of acceleration of the car. Likewise, removing weight from the car frees up HP and can be seen as an improvement in acceleration.

the 10:1 ratio car:engine weight saving, was just as an example and should not be considered as fact!

Sproxter, my answer wasnt aimed at what you had said, rather, just pointing out to Mr Blister that theres no 'exact' science to it

Paul

I seriously doubt it!
