Right so this is how the story goes, i've recently rebuilt my NA 1293 engine [1000 miles on it..if that] and i have since got bored and toyed with the idea of supercharging it.
I got as far as getting myself the M45 5th gen charger and jonspeed crank pulley and a local mini specialist were going to knock me up some manifolds dead cheap but now they're not going to so i'm gonna be mugging the supercharger off for a turbo :)
Plan is to fit a T2 and intercooler and run at low-ish boost as i'm not after all out power just something which is fun, quick and reliable which i have the scope to improve on later.

At the moment, i'm trying to determine wether my current spec is going to be suitable for a turbo and if it'll last, and also trying to gather a list of exactly whats needed!

So at the moment the spec is:

1293 A+
21253 Pistons
10/10 Crank regrind
centre main strap
ARP con rods bolts
Competition head studs
Standard 12G940 33/29mm valves 160lb Double valve springs
SW5-07 cam
Alloy vernier duplex gear
Balenced internals
Pre-verto clutch
Blue clutch diaphram
hif44
minspares torquemaster inlet manifold
k&n cone filter
maniflow stage 2 manifold
maniflow centre exit exhaust system
65DM4 Electronic Dizzy

GT ratio box
3.1 Fd
x-pin diff

Since then i have had the chambers opened up to 28cc to give me a CR of 8:5.1 to make way for the supercharger and now i've read that this should be OK for a turbo too?

I'm going to sell the supercharger and crank pulley and maybe some of my NA parts so this should help to cover the costs for the turbo conversion.

Starting with the very basics from what i've read up on it seems the old T3 is past it and T2 is the way to go, i have a friend with a R5 GT turbo and i think he has a spare lying around somewhere which i can rebuild or get reconned if needs be.

So first on my list of things to source are:
Weld in a turbo bulkhead box, modify to make room for actuator
turbo hif44
T3 manifold - but mod to accept T2
Metro turbo inlet manifold - can i use my NA inlet manifold?
Plenum chamber - mod to accept intercooler & dump valve

I think this will be enough to get me going at least, i guess the best place to find these parts will be on ebay or in the for sale section? obviously if anyone has any of the above parts then please feel free to pm me

Of course and advice on improving the spec or any niggles which i'm bound to run into then i'm all ears and i'm sorry if this has all been done before, i have searched and found some of what i need to know but all i'm after is some advice and reassurance that i'm doing things the right way :$

cheers!!

just a quicky cos im off to 2work

no you cant use an na inlet manifold ( sure it hits the turbo exhaust manifold)

the t2 is as old as the t3 sort of speek but should boost up lower down if thats what you mean, if you want an even better turbo look at the gt15

that cr will be ok if your running an inter cooler even better, the 21252 pistons are proving to be quite good for a couple users, make sure the fueling is spot on though, the melt fast when things get hot

you will need to ditch the dizzy and go for a turbo one at worst, or megajolt ( please search for that)

the maniflow stage 2 manifold you list is na only i beleve ( as its an update to the LCB)

blue clutch dia... on the pre verto i believe is standard 1275, you will need an orange to about 120bhp or grey to about 150 ( or there abouts)

the cam i seem to remember looks to be a good choice

bla bla *happy* im sure others will be here to answer some of the other points or correct me more likily,

a couple guys are having a big clear out with some very cheep prices get in there fast *wink*

one last thing we tell every one, saves alot of hassle, virtualy EVERY thing has been tryed before and a quick search should bring up a thread,

cheers Brett, the shopping list gets longer! *happy* but it's good to see that i can sell of some of my NA parts to fund the turbo bits!

I have bought myself a t3 exhaust manifold from someone on here already so waiting on that, i think i may be better of posting a topic in the wanted section *smiley*

in what way it the gt15 better than the t2? i was going to get myself an adaptor plate to fit the t2 i'm guessing the gt15 will fit in a similar way?!

its 20 odd years more upto date, better more efficient core design, i think mine is water cooled too ( although some t2 are)
there is i believe a gt15 thats the same fitment as a t2

ahh i've been reading and the gt1548 has a similar bolt pattern to the t2 but the gt1544 has a 3 bolt setup

i've been considering the gt17 as it's easier to come by and relatively straight forward to fit, is there anyone running one of these and can they tell me any problems which i am likely to run into when fitting one - so far i need to mod the t3 manifold, make a downpipe and move the actuator??
thanks
