Im building up my tool collection and am after a torque wrench, which is the best size to get? 40-200 or 60-300.

Also which one would you choose between the britool one's on the link below or the halfords pro range? The halfords professional ones look good and can be cheap if I get a mate with a trade card to get it but the britool are a better brand and have 50% off at the minute!

I've a lot of Britool tools and cannot rate them highly enough, have been very strong and reliable over 10 or more years of use now. Halfords tools are also good quality in general these days.

As for what to get, ideally if you can afford it I would say get a 3/8 drive from 10Nm up to about 80Nm, then get a 1/2 drive that goes up to about 300Nm. The 40-200 you suggest will miss things you will need to do at both ends of the scale.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

i have had Britool for the last 35 years and and its been calibrated only a few times and it was only a tad out ........ so on that note britool all the way!

if you dont wind the set poundage off after use this is what sends them reading low after a short! period

Id agree with all the comments on britool, fantstic tools.
I had a draper t' wrench for years and that served me well. Friends have had halfords stuff and they seem reasonable also.

In the reviews I've read the Halfords black ones always do very well and I've not had a problem with mine. As mentioned above they are probably made by someone else.
It seems they are generally calibrated accurately out of the box but, as with any torque wrench, they should be checked regularly.

What I really like is the range of their 1/2" one is just a little wider than most others so covers the CV nut which a lot don't.

I bought a cheap torque wrench in Lidl six years ago and had it calibrated for the first time this year. It was spot on and didn't need adjusting.

got a couple of big britool ones, and also a small ratchet 3/8 norbar that goes from next to nothing to 40lb/ft

its perfect for more delicate stuff like gearbox fastners, output covers, housings etc
