You try to do things properly and declare your engine size swap and they make life difficult!

The DVLA want a written confirmation of the change on headed paper from an independent garage confirming my engine size, because, i quote:

"Very few manufacturer produce an engine size of exactly 1380. If your evidence does not provide an accurate engine size, it may be rejected."

Is there anyone on here that can help out with a letter, your unlikely to be able to come an inspect the car, but I'm pretty sure you can trust me that it is a 1380. I'm in Cambs if you do want to see it.

Oh, and no, I have no chance of getting the other option of "a receipt of purchase on headed paper confirming...." because, it came from, ahem, morspeed...

Send em another one with the engine size as 1378.61cc

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

My OH got one of these when he tried to declare his as 1293.

Simon is writing me a headed letter so I don't have to go through all the ball bag of repeatedly writing.

No doubt I'll have this to come. I'm just going to send a copy of the reciept for the pistons and the over bore and a page of complex maths. Fook em.

Ace idea.
No doubt I'll be going through the same hassle so I may have to take a leaf out of your book.

Not very sunny swanage

its never really occurred to me to tell them..... is that really bad?? Ive always figured that as long as its properly insured and it wont make any difference to the road tax then why bother telling them..... Same with engine number changes, when i first got the mini on the road i went though engines like they were going out of fashion, if id sent them a letter every time i changed the engine, they would have had the v5 more than me!!

And on the 7th day........... God created turbochargers!

I've just done all this for the 7 port - you'll be ok with a sensible receipt but please send the letters by recorded post - they will lose the letters and original V5's with alarming ease - and its all your fault if they do - you have been warned!

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

You could just ignore it, wait a week or two and re-submit the change. The chances are that you wont get the same grade A a... hole and it will just fly through. It seems that there are just one or two people doing this who have no idea about older cars and are applying a regulation that does not apply.

1275 and 1293 fall under the heading 1.3 or 1300. 1380 would fall under the heading 1.4 or 1400. Fuck knows what 1310 or 1340 comes under, but it won't be abything the DVLA will recognise.

I'll bet you that if you said it was 1400, the might not question it as much.

this is probibly the reason why the old woman said that 1275 didnt sound right. While it might be right, its still 1300. LMFAO. No one thinks for them selves anymore. More and more people are doing their job like a machine would, and if that is the case, let the machine do it rather than paying some one good money for something that they clearly don't give a fuck about.

oh and I forgot to say that there is not one engine on this planet that has an absolute bang on 1000, 1100, 1200, 1300, 1400, 1500, 1600, 1700, 1800, 1900, 2000 CC and so on. Some are a whole 50cc off the mark!!

:)

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

BL produced a Mini called a 1275 GT, there's a clue in the name.

This whole thing doesn`t surprise me with the DVLA,they are a bunch of incompetants.I`m diabetic and i have to re-new my drivers licence every three years,i got all the relevent forms for my renewal in May as the licence ran out in June.Anyway i`m still waiting and driving on a covernote, which is fair enough but as i`m a delivery driver it would help to have a licence.Everytime i ring up to check on progress, all i get when i explain i need a licence for my job they just say you`ve got a covernote!Morons!

Do you own a computer ? Do you own a printer ?

Job done.

If they are going to be arseholes about the process, fire it right back at them and print everything yourself.

If they havent got a fucking clue about an engine size, they wont have a fucking clue who wrote the letters they are asking for.
