as work is progressing on my volkswagen T2 mini transporter i was in need of panelwork for the pickup

i found that some vw parts do not come cheap in comparison with the odd mini panel so i decided to make something up myself

first off i had a mini van rear valance lying around in my garage

cut about 1/3 off the top end

turn around the lip on the side for easy welding

fits very tight as it has the same bend as the original panel

voila ready to weld

nice bit of work.

I remember a mate of mine a few years back used to have a workshop next to a body shop and he was for ever using sections of discarded panels off other cars to make repair sections. In most cases, repair sections wern't available anyway but it must have saved a fortune through the years

i just love this kind of things,

you go to the shop for panels, they tell you its not available or it will cost you a lot and then you sit around in the garage until you have a euraka moment, you fiddle around with it a bit and make it fit properly
