Just had a new combi boiler fitted in my loft and the water taps converted to mains pressure rather than the original boiler in the airing cupboard and header tank in the loft.
Problem is, while the kitchen, downstairs bog and bathroom sink taps have lots more pressure and are good, the bath tap is pathetic delivering only a small amount of water and takes 1/2 an hour to fill the bath!?
Is that normal? If it is I wish I had left it as it was.
Im still waiting on the company to get back to me but theyre not answering due to a bereavement.

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

This is a common problem with small is combi boilers.

They restrict the hot water flow to give the heat exchanger more time to heat the water. The taps in the sink may apear to flow fast, but no doubt this is just because the orifice in the tap is smaller than the bath taps

Thats what I thought Jim, the bath taps feed pipe is 22mm, all others are 15mm.

Problem is, I need to bath every day to treat my skin condition. Its not acceptable. Any ideas?????

We have the same problem. I generally use the electric shower to help fill up the bath. Seems to help a bit. *oh well*

22mm is pretty large for a bath supply

how close to the meter is your boiler? is there a lot of sharp 90deg bends in your gas run? A drop in working gas pressure will not help.

what make of boiler is it?

I'm not a plumber, but have done quite a bit the last few years after being let down by plumbers

The house was built with 22mm pipes and bath taps are made for 22mm pipes. What do you lot have then?

I seriously doubt it!

back in the day bath taps were 22mm and other taps were 15mm, these days a lot of bath taps seem to be 15mm and other taps are those microbore threaded things that appeared with mixer taps.

I always run 22mm for baths and mixer showers.

Whats the output on your boiler buddy (for hot water and not heating)

what is the boiler spec? it could well be down to the flow rate. most of our pipes are 15mm to the taps

Ill have to find out the output. Its a Worcestershire boiler.

I know its a large boiler as it has to heat a detatched 3 bed house and I told them to make sure it would cope with the under floor heating which will be going in the extension thats currently being built too. Whether that can tell you anything I dont know.

Could the newer houses be built with 15mm bath pipes to help with this issue as theyre running on mains pressure?

I seriously doubt it!

This is the boiler which my "friend" installs http://www.ferroli.co.uk/product_documenta.../F30_Manual.pdf

check out the figures on page 5, check your manual to see how it compares to this one, mainly

2Domestic hot
water production
with Dt 30°C 14,3 l/min

Paul, I had a look at the hot water feed from our boiler last night and it is in 15mm although i've not checked the spec. Only 22mm pipes are gas and mains water

Paul, maybe uoi should check that you are getting 12.6l/min, see if you can fill just over two buckets in a minute.

I guess this would depend of the size of the buckets, eh?

u need to test the flow at the bath to check it, using a flow jug. Theres a gd chance it seems rubbish as the pressure is low but the flow is wat it suld be. ↲I am a plumber and its the same in 90 % of houses wen its converted to a combi↲Hope this helps

13.95 1/4 mile on a 2.95 fd. Carnt be that hard to beat!

Cheers guys, Ill try the bucket idea and will talk to the installers when I can get hold of the buggers.
Theyre a family run franchise of a larger company and the mother died a few days before my install. They took a week off after they finished for the funeral and bereavement so I guess theyre still catching up

I seriously doubt it!
