Hiya,

I. just putting my mini back together and was contemplating fitting a dump valve in the plenum. When I look online there are loads of different types and makes. Could someone point me in the right direction.

Many thanks

Generally they all work. But I have had more success with the diaphram type rather than the piston tupe.

We took the piston dump valve of the van the other night as it was full of petrol and the seals had swollen, making it not dump properly and skewing the vacuum signal to the megajolt.

As per Wil, diaphragm type.

The problem with the piston type on a "normal" Mini/Metro configuration is that the sensing line is (or at least should be....) after the carburettor, so the sensing line gets a shot of fuel and air every time the valve operates.

Diaphragms are less likely to be damaged by this.

Piston actuated types are meant for fuel injected cars where the sensing line is well before the point the fuel is injected so only sees clean air.

Any other criteria is just pub talk or how much of a chav noise you can make (rather than protect the compresser which is what they are really there for)..

Waste of money IMO, instead buy a Bosch recirc OEM dump valve as fitted to many Saabs, Citroens, Audis, etc, can be bought from ebay for about £5. Pipe it in to recirc if you want it quiet, or leave it open to atmo if you want the noise.

I don't see why not Rob, I've got one on my 205 and it works a treat, £4 off ebay if I remember right.

Standard Bosch one

Fitted in normal recirculating mode (sense line not yet connected in this photo).

As well as Saab, Ciroeon, Audi, etc, standard fitting to Cossie from the factory.

Acting on the same advice from Rod, last year, I have had a £2 Ebay dump valve like this working fine since then.

What do they cost then philip cos the piston one we've got has given up the ghost unless we can find some new o-rings.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.
