after my gear box blowing up last week i ordered a new sccr box with xpin diff and sc drops, but i stripped the engine this w end and last night to find middle2 cylinders are slightly scored andon the skirts, im debatin whether to just hone it and wet and dry the piston or replace them with new block and pistons. (i want to stay 1293). but i have no morehobby funds after my ?1000 g box, aarrgghh.

any one out there thinkin about using standard drive train on any turbo other than standard i strongly recommend NOT.

ill get some pics up, bits of 2nd gear stuck in the base of the piston

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

my advice is do it right
its worth the wait

then yon must have it set up on the rollers after running it in on LOW boost to runn in

you have come this far go the whole hog

I bought a profesionally rebuilt Standard gearbox and thrashed it around for 2 years with no probs.

I think it all comes down to knowing what conditions the compenents are in before you start to use it, if its done 150k miles the chances are it wont last long!!!

true sumpnut
we all assume that the standard g/box is in good condition
to thrash round on 10psi ish

most of them have done more miles than the starship enterprise

mines just started making a weird noise lately. it's a standard turbo box with s/c drops. There's no crunching or jumping out of gear like i've had in my old gearboxes, but there's like a rattley/chattery kinda noise mainly in 2nd and 3rd, it doesn't do it when your foot is buried but if you're only using really light throttle it makes it, but then disappears in 4th. really confused by it!..........is it fooked?

the box was new, re conned in november did 1100 miles on a n/a 1293, still under warranty but cause the engines been heavily modded from stock turbo the guy virtually told me to f$*k off, i'd get your gear box checked out bud soon as, bits of metal could be writing your engine off as we speak

Yea Bud, get the box looked at asap. It may seem like allot of hassle but u will be pissed off later if it turns shards of metal have fucked up the rest of ure engine....

grab yourself another box bud, ready for an instant change over

keep an good eye on the debris in the box and make your Decision based on that: we all take the chances

miniman tell the guy who rebuilt the box,

he made a bodge of it

tell him he is a WA***R*angry*

it should have lasted longer than that!
my lawn mower g/box grafted on to the A series would have lasted longer.

i wasn't expecting it to last long to be honest, the engines coming out in the next week or so anyway as i was going to change to a minispares diff. looks like me and T2clubby better learn how to rebuild a box now then doesn't it!

I've seen an ad in the mags i think it's min-it's or minimine, they do a s/c gearset but it uses your original 1st and reverse gears, are these any good? just that they're ?100 cheaper than a normal s/c c/r gearset.

hmmmm, i looked at these.

My only thought was it is mixing older posibly worn parts with the freshly machined. Years ago when I worked at a bike shop chains for example where in with their sprokets to the point where it is not good to change only 1 item over.

With this kit you would end up with a new laygear working with your old 1st gear. This put me off. However i do not have any reseach to prove my theory, just a hunch...

+ isnt half the reason of changing to s/c to get a beter first gear ratio to launch with?

yeah, id take back to him but he dont waana know, hes 6 foot 4 and quite broad too, i have same view as sumpnut on these, to much hassle for ?100,if it pops, agree on first gear too, to much wheelspin with original

You still get a different ratio. The number of teeth on the first motion gear, and the biggest gear on the layshaft changes this.

Minispares Clubman gearkit is what your after. It uses the same first and reverse gear. I've just built a box like this, and use proper 2nd hand pieces and there's no problems.

http://www.minispares.com/SearchResults.as...1&ss=24|clubman

Find a decent first gear (similar on ALL four sync boxes) and off you go.

The reason I haven't used this kit in my own gearbox is because I'm building a remote box, and it's VERY hard to find good reverse gears. You cannot get stock reverse remote gears anymore. If I was using a rod box, and go for this one

feebs sorry for the delay in replying buddy (vegards right) BUT you may be not as skilled as him or as knowlagable
having said that

try watsons at wakefield BUT you will pay*blush*

cant you and pot dan get together to build one as a straight replacement AWAINTING rebuild? sort of do one in your own time not having the car down awaiting g/box rebuild
its spare built with all the good guy internals*wink*

then its a one day swap*wink*

how far do you want to go feebs ?

if the box checkes out OK*happy*

and say does not jump out of gear etc by all means X pin diff SC drops these are usually the weak links

DIFF AROUND 150 QUID
DROPS around the same ish. 200 i think?

there are that many combinations to do depending what you want etc it can be a mine field and especially if maybe ones knowlage is limited.

if you are worried about the gearbox you have in feebs and its whining noise dont worry as this will be normal on a box with some miles on
providing you are not going to kill it by slightly excessive boost and been neglectful towards the box

would you need to do is dont leap in and get your self into a difficult position which PI****S you off and you become down harted as before! *frown*

you can avoid which may not be nessasary?

hope this guides you feebs:*wink*
