I found a ring pull from a sardine tin in place of the gear selector pin.

It was also fitted with car killers and 3 carpets *oh well*

My old front slam panel was pretty much made of filler before I replaced it!

Warwick.

The person who used to own my car was apparently an engine builder...well...
my compression was up around 12.5:1
the rockers were at a horrible angle with single valve springs too.
my "new" crank clearly had the tail touched by an angle grinder.
the bottom transfer gear bearing what somewhat buggered causing it to disintergrate killing the transmission housing, sending swarf into the box, the oil and ultimatly the bearings dropping oil pressure to 0psi when i was on my 1st rally
the final drive had 2 teeth missing off it.
and the best for last...my nice expensive JKD dogbox uses odd side bearings on the layshaft he obviously had some difficulty finding the bearings because he decided it would be a good idea to use a copper bush instead causing the laygear to heat up n go blue on the end.
on and the wiring was an absolute horrible mess and the rollcage had been modified from its MSA logbook (cut out the rear diagonal!)
not quite sure what id do if i saw the guy, his stupidity has cost me thousands

David.

Well I also got a nice umbrella and a tupperware that is still in use.

But the shafts of the upper arms never saw a milligram of fresh grease seeing that I mistakenly believe they were on bushes rather than bearings ...

I once bought a Lotus twincam which had been freshly rebuilt to go in my Ginetta. Luckily I was going to dry sump it, because when I took the sump off, all the reboring swarf was still inside it! What kind of moron...? *angry*

Somewhere around Swindon

Its just a part of mini ownership, mini's for years have been the second or only cheap run around so people bodged them to keep costs down, they have also been owned by many a 17 year old that knows nothing about cars so again bodged as they know no better.

Did I ever told you the story about a guy who sued the previous owner a whole year after purchase because the mini he bought was rotting, which was stated at the moment of purchase ?

And you know what ?

The guy won !

So the PO had to give the money back for the car + reimburse the attorney money + gave some more money to make up for the fact so the guy didn't have his mini anymore.

In this story, the PO is an honnest fellow and stated that the car was rotten on place and that the rotting needed adressing, hence the low price (not that low anyway as on the minis we got in France cast iron is probably replaced by gold seeing the prices people ask for 'em).

I don't know if it is true thought but it is scary as a seller ...
