i got my old t2 from a very decent engine didnt need rebuild just a clean for £25 and that was with postage but that was ages ago |

yip, the difference in turbine wheel material is a myth, with few exceptions :) turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

Some say they are made of least cast iron (the some being one of my colleagues telling me with blueprints to back up his statements that the turbo I got was limited to a steady 500 °C and 700°C tops)

the only material failures i have seen of turbochargers are ceramic turbines off some old jap stuff, and i put these failures down to old age more than anything else! seen plenty of diesel turbochargers used on petrol engines. if there is indeed a difference, oe tolerances arnt the same as ours, i mean, who would be hauling a caravan up a steep incline on full chat in there mini Edited by evolotion on 15th Nov, 2010. turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

Maybe the stated temperatures are what the car manufacturer regards as least / what he is ready to pay for whereas the material and process require something stronger ?
