Hi just interested on your views of laminova style oil coolers (using coolant) to regulate the oils temperature, as im new the the mini "Turbo" scene wonder if you have had any experiances, personally i feel its a more consistant form of cooling, all oppinions welcome *wink*

Most Minis struggle with water temperature anyway, so dumping more heat into the water system is generally a bad idea.

I would love one of these. Air to oil coolers is a waste of energy.
Too bad they are so expensive.

I use an oil to water heat exchanger on 998ccm. it´s from a metro turbo. And given a resent tread radiators the right watercooler will fix the water temperature.
I will use one from Alfa Laval on my next engine. I work for that company.
I would like to point out that my car is a daily driver. Fearless fenton might be right from a race point of view.

The tread on radiators:

given when most on here measure there oil temp its below optimum it could be a good idea from the point of view of bringing the oil up to temp quicker!?

due water temp needing to be around 87degress and oil from 85-100 thought it may keep temps consistant couldnt an air cooler can make the oil temp take to long to get to optimum and poss over cool?

I think like tom said , mini cooling isnt brilliant so i wouldnt want to make it worse with the added oil through it.
Most dont use an oil cooler as it just doesnt get hot enough, if it is getting too hot then an air oil cooler but with thermostat in is the way to go.

Exactly. I don't see the point in increasing water temp. It just a question of dealing with it. Easy peasy.

We had an OEM oil - water heat exchanger on the van for a bit. It made the water hot and did fook all for the oil. Took it off again and now the engine doesn't get too hot.

You did have an oil temperature gauge? If it made the water hot and nothing for the oil, where did then the extra heat come from?

This is what I'm fitting to my racecar along with a front mounted radiator. The best of both worlds.

Yes V we have an oil temp gauge. The oil also got hot after a good thrashing. That was measuring from the sump...

What makes you draw this conclusion?
