Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anybody have replaced the standard mini matrix that gets luke warm on a good day with a ceramic heater element from a electric heater?

This will allow the mini to heat up quicker and hotter.

If anybody has done this or has any information on this it would be greatly appreciated :)

Many thanks

Miles

the amount of amps the ceramic element would consume at 12v would be immense to create anything near what the mini heater is capable of

if yours is poor give it a flush out first, its free and should sort it

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

yep as above,

to get a decent amount of heat you will need something in the order of 200 times the current of a headlight.

never had a problem with my heater, always been man enough to keep the car and two occupants warm on a winters day.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I have one of those little ceramic heaters. Draws about 15 amps and can barely manage to keep the drivers side of the windscreen from fogging up, never mind heat the interior - and this is in sunny Oz!

But if the picture in your avatar is correct, it would be quite difficult to heat the interior - even in sunny Oz - as the "interior" is the whole planet *happy*

Seriously though, back to the original question, 15A at 12-14V is 200 Watts.
To get even 1Kw (which is still not much) would need 75A and a massive alternator.
Use the coolant system, it's heat that has to be thrown away anyway and won't use engine power driving a massive alternator.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???
