Hey guys, have searched the forum but had no joy...

Can someone tell me (or point me towards a guide) on how to fit new shocks and hi-los (front and rear)

How much time should i set asside for doing this job, and what spanner rating would you give it?

Fronts easy..

wheels off, just a 9/16 nylock nut holds each shock on. 30 mins top.

Rears, uhmm? not as easy but not too hard....

Wheels of gives more space, do job on an empty fuel tank, remove tank out of the way of N/S top shock mount, undo with 2 x 9/16 spanners. rear of shock is same as front with a 9/16 nylock nut.

thats the shocks....

Hi-Lo's....

Rears:-
Pretty easy, once shocks off. you should be able to swin radius arm enough to pull cone and rubber donut out in one peice, whip all that out and prise cone off donut (they can be rally welded together). best you fit new knuckle joints as well at this point, which is a bit more difficult as you need to swap the plastic cup thats in the radius arm. If once clean the original ISNT MARKED, leave it in, otherwise swap it over and grease heavily. fit new ball part of knuckle joint to rod and fit to wound in hi-lo. pull radius arm up to hold all in place, and ensure the rubber gaitor fits over the cup so no shite can get in. Then wind out until roughly the same length as the old cone. shove shock back on, and tighten it all up (including locknut on hi-lo.

Fronts:-
Bit more difficult, as you need a cone compressor tool. with shocks off, and car supported by the subframe (which should be done first *wink* ) undo the big fcuk off bolt under bonnet that holds the subframe in place. then follow the instructions for the cone compressor tool. MAKE SURE you use the correct thread size dependant on age of car, and DONT force it in. once donut is compressed enough, lift out cone and knuckle, and replace as needed as mentioned before (if you do need to replace cup, a blowlamp helps soften it, and then pry out with a screwdriver). if its tight getting cone out, wind the compressor more or remove the little rubber stop under the radius arm (held in by a corroded philips screw). then again, grease new knuckle cup heavily. fit new ball part of knuckle joint to hi-lo and fit to wound in hi-lo. connect it all up to the compressed donut and pull radius arm up to hold all in place, and ensure the rubber gaitor fits over the cup so no shite can get in. Then wind out until roughly the same length as the old cone. shove shock back on, and tighten it all up (including locknut on hi-lo.) oh and release the cone compressor and refit the big fcuk off bolt.

hope that helps

Oh no, I've gone cross eyed!! *surprised*

Cheers for the replies guys, I'm starting to wonder if this is something i'm gonna be able to do on my own. :/

Can anyone recommend somewhere that isn't going to break the bank, or can 'supervise' me whilst i have a crack at it.

I live in basingstoke, but I'm willing to put tools in the car and travel. I'll happily furnish any takers with beer and cash. :)
