I know you can use allsorts but I am looking for the tool rather than wedging a screwdriver in the ring gear.

So if any one has one that they don't need and would like to sell it, let me know.

Thanks Simon

I have the one pictured above and it has served well, certainly not had any issues with it, other than the initial cost.

I have seen another that was just a piece of angle iron welded to a flat plate. At first I considered it to be shite, and I still stand by that, but since it bolted to the wok side of the starter apperature, I have now realised the theory used, that if you are changing the clutch with the engine in the car, you don't have to remove the starter *happy* while the fancy one pictured above needs the starter removing but not the wok, which is much better if you are working on the front end of the engine. Dropping a bearing shell into the clutch housing will only create hours more work.

Bearing shell works just as well, but is a bit gheto, lol

Just a thought. People suggest using a bearing shell to those who are asking the question on how to lock the flywheel to remove it. Those people clearly won't have a random bearing shell lieing around as they've never had an engine apart, which is the main reason they're asking the initial question to start with *hehe!*

I use the patented Carl Austin ring gear tool, as you would expect from Mr Austin it is faultless.

leeds/wakefield.

the reason i use a piece of ringear, is because i have broken a tooth off beofre using ill fitting silly pieces of steel jammed into the 6-7mm wide gear i always use,, the 25mm piece of eingear is a perfect mesh and spreads tha load over 2-3 teeth,

We used some 1.75" exhaust the other day, cut down the middle into a crescent, then hammered a tiny bit so that it fitted between two teeth rather than one, as we didnt have a shell bearing to hand *happy*
