What clearance would people generally allow between open valves and block/pistons?

I am using a 998 block that I had decked to clean up some damage, so the cut-outs for the exhaust valves (using 940 head) are not as deep as they once were.

It cleared before, but I've always just done them to a fixed depth as I know they clear. Just want to know what people would run so I can check.

cheers

You could always sit the head on with no gasket, turn the engine by hand to check it clears.

Not scientific, but no doubt a good way to ensure there is a safety margin there.

lovely job. My feeling is that it will be around 1mm, so should be ok.

I went off the clearances as described in my cams instructions kent 266. 1.5mm but I could only manage a bit under that 1.44 I think.
