I'm just refitting inlet side of things after a carb rebuild and while I've got access I just want to check I'm setting the actuator correctly.

Would I be correct in thinking; I want to be winding the threaded rod in (compressing the actuator spring) as far as possible... sooo when the boost comes on it's going to require more force to compress the spring any further, meaning the gate will stay closed longer giving me the highest potential boost for that spring.

Although then I'm stuck in a high boost situation?

i think the usual rule of thumb is to set the rod so that its about half a hole out on the wategate tag, ie you have to pull the rod out slightly to get it over the wategate.

thats how mines always been set anyway.

Don't go too mad to start with, it is possible to wind the preload up so much that there is no travel left in the actuator!

As Nick says try 1/2 a hole or so to start with, you can always wind it up a bit more if needed, another nut tack welded to the actuator arm makes this easier in situ.
