Non turbo engine wont run, but was runnig perfectly before.

Ok well i started my 998 carb mini up this moring to warm up and when i came back out it had died. So i tried to start it again, and it would hardly idle atall (Well i say that it will idle, it litterally fires for about 3 seconds then dies) Also it wouldnt rev up atall.

Im completely lost as to what it could be, i have tried changing a few parts, but they have not helped.

Iv changed the points and condensor, spark plugs, HT leads rotor arm and cap.

I checked and topped up the carb oil.

I have also done a compression chack and they all read 9.5 bar.

None of the above have made any difference atall.

Has anyone got any ideas atall what the problem could be as i really want to use the mini tomorrow morning.

I havent touched the timing or the fueling and the mini was running perfectly this morning when i first started it tow arm it up.

Might sound daft, but has it got petrol in it?

Yep its got pertrol, and it is filling the dashpot...

coil ? change this to eliminate it

The only coil i have is from a mini with electric ignition, i presume they are different? or will it work?

should be OK for a quick test fire, but I wouldn't run it for long as it will burn out.

Ok well i just quickly went out and stuck the electric ignition coil on it and that didnt even give a spark, might be a dead coil i guess...

Ok iv just been thinking about it a bit more and the mini could have been left outside for upto half hour, with the ignition on, so could this have burnt the coil out if it was on its last legs? But just enough to give a weak spark maybe?

Because i started the mini up then went inside got breakfast and ready to go out, so the mini could have died prety fast after i went out, then the ignition out have still been on powering the coil still...

Just a thought. Ill have to try and source a coil but i guess my chances are low first thing on a sunday morning lol.

Ok well i stuck a new coil on it and it made no difference.

I did manage to ge the engine to idle now and rev up, but it spits and bangs.

To get it to do this all i did was stick the chock in fully....

I had the choke fully out before and it wouldnt even idle let alone rev, so now with the choke in the engine will idle and rev up but it really spits and bangs when you rev it.
