How do Gents

We're having issues getting my verto flywheel off. I have a Sykes-Pickavant flywheel puller, and the amount of pressure used to turn the nut has just about stripped the threads in the puller.

We have tried tightening it up and then giving it a smack but it just won't budge.

Any other tricks of the trade?

Tom

Have you got the triangular bit absolutely parallel to the flywheel? You can twist the flywheel a touch if you're not careful.

Have you removed the big washer bit from the centre? It's real name escapes me...

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Ive had the same problem before. I left mine under tension over night and in the morning it was free. :)

Try a heat gun whilst under tension aswell.

leeds/wakefield.

you could try some very direct heat, you dont want to heat up the puller or its securring bolts , as they awill noly stretch and relieve tension,

try get some heat into the boss, i use a pencill flame in a handheld plumbers torch, after 1/2 hr i give the boss a crack with a hammer and long bar ,

ive got a 10 tonne puller, and still had to resort to the gas axe

vertos seem much worse for grabbing the crank then non verto for some reason

Massive tension with the puller, then Massive hammer, and massive whacks !!! ( dont forget to turn the flywheel too.
Try not to damage the drop gear casing when whacking with the hammer though. Might be better with a long steel bar and hit it instead.

Failing that, its cut the fucker off !

The little bar steward has now budged!

I had to take the engine down to the local mini garage who had a bigger puller and an air chisel. We put ALOT of pressure using a big bar on the puller and then used the air chisel on the boss... ratta tat tat and it popped off! Hooray!

If he got hit in the groin when the flywheel came of it would be more than his tail that was damaged!
