You probably could, there are a few conversion kits on the market - mostly aimed at old LandRover owners, but it's essentially the same dizzy - have a search on eBay.

But what engine is yours, A plus or earlier ???

If it's A plus you could just fit the ready made electronic one from later Minis/Metros.

Obviously it depends to some extent on your engine spec (ie, advance curve) but probably a simpler more reliable solution.

As the later electronic ones are for A plus blocks and associated dizzy drive shafts it wouldn't be a straight swap on an earlier engine but I'm sure it would be possible if you swapped the drive dog and mounting plate.

If you do swap the drive dog then you should also drill up the spindle and tap so as to be able to add a small extension to mate with the drive spindle correctly otherwise it falls short and the bearings may not last as long.

i am having trouble identifiying the engine as some bright spark decided to tag it up as an 850 cc however it does have a 12g940 head on and is also a carb model if this is any use to you ???

Wow....

That looks like an eBay advert where the engine has been dipped in a tank of paint :)

However, under the extremely thick layer of paint, most things suggest it is A plus (clutch arm, alternator bracket, pre-engaged starter) and most importantly in your case, the dizzy vacuum advance unit and the connecting wire.

If the dizzy is held in place by a single bolt straight into the block and a forked clamp, it's an A plus and will accept any of the later factory electronic dizzys.

the dizzy is held in place by 1 single bolt to the block along with a u shaped type clamp so would this be sufficient to keep it running good without changing points and condensor every 6 months ? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT

It's got an engine number plate. that should tell you the core engine size. 999 engines start 99...
