Hi guys im picking up a bare block on the weekend and want to get some options on the table for building my turbo lump.

This is going to be my first engine build so be gentle, first off i would like to say i want to build either a 1293cc or 1330 turbo, at this point i am concentrating on just the block and will approach the other items in time. I have no set time limit to complete this in and would like to try and get value for money but without compromising quality. Use of car will be for occasional commuting and weekend fun so a good all-rounder.

first off pistons what would you recommend?
std rods ok for the pistons?

Crank will be wedged cross drilled and tufftrided

compression ratio i need help on what would you recommend

Cams what works best on turbo engines?

sorry about the daft questions so far as im new to turbo minis but i would like to make the right decisions with your help. plus i want to start compiling a parts stash for my project soon.

Thanks in advance for your patience and help

I'd do a bit of a search - all this has been covered many times before;

what are you intending to use the engine for? what power are you looking for? you need to get your head round that before you start preparing a spec

As said in the initial post i am looking for something i can use daily and also something that will be fun, power wise 100bhp - 150bhp i dont want anything thats going to be needing a rebuild every other week, the only reason for asking is that the block im getting needs a re-bore and would like some options for people who have turbo motors that run them regularly. as said the block is bare and will have all new components when finished

I also dont want to go and speak to an engine builder or machine shop and look like a dip stick and get diddled out of my hard earned.

Post edited i have now found a very helpful spec sheet posted by PaulS so i am now allot wiser

Cheers guys

My sister is so fit I won't show anyone her picture

Lake District

If a +0.020" rebore is enough to clean the bores up then go to that. This will leave more material in the block for future rebores should they be needed.

Turbo Phil thanks for the advice i will probably go with your recommendation.

Just had a proper look through the data sheet and for the items im thinking of getting it looks like it could be 150 - 170 bhp. am i right in thinking i need to be looking at a compression ratio of 8:1?
