Hi All,
When I first put my new motor in I had one of the cheapo alloy rads from ebay, approx £58 and its the 40mm one. Now like a clever twat I decided to run with electric fan only and first run it started to overheat, luckily I didnt let it boil but maybe this has help contribute to my eaten thrusts, even after going straight to a mechanical fan the temp was better but still rose after a decent run-and that was only during running in. So with my eaten thrusts problem which has trashed the block and the crank by the way *angry*, and forced the need for another partial rebuild I decided to upgrade-minispares super2 core rad+mech fan and maybe some additive, water wetter ect if it needs it. So having seen both rads side by side I noticed that

1.The vertical cores of the rad on the cheapo there are 25 pairs and on the ms2core there are 27 pairs.

2.The cores themselves when viewed through the cap opening are approx the same width in both rads but the ms2core ones are at least a 50% thicker ie bigger bore than the chepo

3.Finally the fins between the cores are denser in the ms2core approx 18 individual fins per inch and opposed to approx 15 per inch in the cheapo- over the whole rad thats a lot of fins

cheers

I reckon that there are good and bad ones out there.

In comparison, wintersurfers chinese rad was too efficient. On the way home from the rolling road day we pulled over as his temp gauge was showing over 120deg. After feeling that the top of the rad was stone cold we realised that it was the sender at fault. We removed the top cap and Joe was able to dip his finger into the Luke warm coolant.

Admittedly it was a cool evening, but Paul isn't shy to use the right pedal and this was after over an hours driving.

I think that the appeture in the wing with the rubber seal and the extra space under the clubman front helps matters too.

I was well up to the job and his car is making around 150hp. So the 120hp+ statement above is not true.

Obviously there are variables other than hp.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

Equally those symptoms sound like water isnt circulating properly, and the engine could well be very hot.

202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

to elaborate on oneeyes comment,

there are two temp gauges on wintersurfers car, one in the head (which was reading normally) and one in the bottom of the rad (which was the one that started reading high)

lets not forget thtat some blocks seem to cause over heating.
