Hi all Ive been having problems with my volvo latley in that it runs fine but now and then nothing happens when you turn the ignition. If you hold the ignition on eventually it would kick and start.

I got in my car today and it would not start at all, not even if I held the ignition on.

I bumped the car and it drove fine home, turned it off and tried to start it again and nothing.

I know its not a mini but does anyone have any pointers for me.

Cheers Chris

it does nothing when you turn on the ignition ( ie the dash and lights dont light up)
or it does nowt after you have turned the ignition on and turned to the next click 'start'
if the latter, try tapping on the starter solenoid whilst an assistant turns the key, if its a goer straight away, i would take the starter motor off strip it down thoroughly clean and grease it re fit, or if your lazy ( or its a cheep part) change the solenoid or even whole starter

if it goes click, click, click ( or even just click)
i would look at a dud battery (especially in this cold) or electrical fault more likely a bad earth some where

out of curiosity what engine does it have?

I once had something like this with a Nova. It turned out to be the ignition switch - after cleaning out all the gunge it never happened again.

The battery has full charge. Once you get the first click lights radio etc come on fine, second click nothing not even trying to start..its a 2.4 petrol. Left me clueless I will try those. Cheers
