My project has suddenly jumped leaps and bounds with deciding to buy a 1979 and use that shell, so it'll be on the road a lot sooner than planned.

Turboing is something I've never done before, nor my Dad so we are pretty clueless. Just learning from what we've read on the interwebz.

I'm turboing a standard 998cc, never had a problem with the engine so I know it's a good'en to start with.

I've taken the engine apart and decoked it, replaced the oil pump, cam followers etc..

Basic specs..

Standard 998
12g295 head
T2 turbo
Mirage Manifold
Plenum made from someone on here
Gen Challenge carb

-

As far as I know I just need the intercooler..

What else is worth upgrading? Cam? Rockers?

Put an MG metro (non-turbo) cam in. That'll be exactly the same as an engine I built and it was great.

Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

Ah yeah forgot about that, I've got an MPI tank under my workbench! Which I was told does something that I needed *tongue*

EDIT:

An SPI tank

you need a turbo distributor for the ignition timing OR megajolt, or something similar.

ive used a distributor before and ive always had problems with the timing, ive now since fitted megajolt and it always runs smooth and det free :)

is the only thing special about spi/mpi tanks is that they have an intergrated pump and a fuel return.. so just plug n play??

I don't think the SPi tank will flow enough fuel for a turbo setup. MPi flow more. The pumps are interchangable, but there are loads of fuel injection pumps designed to sit in the tank that will fit.

Megajolt could cost £150-200?

& I've still got my standard tank, will look to sell the SPi tank then. What pump, regulator & filter should I be looking at? any links?

Oh and regarding the gasket for the head, will a standard 998 gasket do?

SPi tank will work fine up to about 10 psi boost pressure.

if you decide you need more boost you can just change the fuel pump, somthing like a fiesta one will fit.

What does that tank cover? regulator and pump?

I'm not at home so I can't go and have a gander at it.

theres jsut a pump in the tank, you'll need to put the reg under the bonnet.

Right, got it :)

Is a regulator the same across all size bored engines or does it need to be specific to what I'm running?

Just get a metro turbo regulator. It needs to be rising rate, so it can supply fuel at boost pressure plus 3.5psi

Have you got turbo oil feed and return lines?

Turbo parts collector at the moment, almost ready.
