Hi all. I've been building and tweaking this mongrel of a mini during the last 7 years.

And having moved house with a bigger garage I had an urgent need to fill the other half of the garage with car before the wife filled it up with tents, bikes and other crap.
It had to be a proper Mk1 this time but I came home with this lol.

It came with two sets of decent alloys, these are 13 x 8 and are illegal I think as they poke out too far which is a shame as i like the look.

Sorry about the crap pictures.

So the bad bits: Nothing electric works, horrible damp interior, no brakes, no mot, needs an exhaust, everything that can move is loose, scabby subframes, worn bushes.

Good bits: Monocoque is sound and the paints good. Came with two sets alloys, all good tyres. The engine is 1293cc, 276 cam, modded head....nothing special.

Plans: This isn't gonna be a full on restoration. I want to drive it then do a bit. What's nice is it that there is no welding to do and the paint just needs T cutting as it is presentable.
It's basically sound it just needs fettling so I'm gonna... Rewire the electrics, make a new dash and sort the interior;
Fabricate an exhaust system as all I've got is a cherry bomb at the moment and its too loud;
Refurb both subbies which are a bit scabby.
I'll rebuild the engine last, Turbo if I can afford it.

Well the interior is dire as you can see:

So i'll get cracking then....

Thanks guys. The Mini just needs a Turbo motor building for it and would be finished I guess.

So...repaired the original GTM dashboard and it still looked crap and also required the windscreen to be removed every time the dash needed to come out.
I fancied a Miglia/race style dash, real simple, no clutter with modern instruments.
Made this from fibreglass for £50

The smiths temp guage is just filling the hole til I get a boost guage and the narrowband will do until I get another wideband.
Next up.... Steering column cowling. I don't think my mini ones will fit and they're horrible rattly creaky cheap things anyhow.
Thinking of using a wide cider bottle or similar as a mould and making one from fibre glass....

Nice cars, a garage is only complete when you have one steel car and one GRP IMO.

Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

the design shows a distinct lack of imagination,

The sad thing is I have a freshly bored 1293cc block, Omega low comp pistons, new straight cut gearbox and Vmax head and SC kit which have all been sitting waiting for me to build for the past 5 years, but in the meantime I've gone off Superchargers and got interested in Turbos instead *Confused* But since i'm out of cash I will SC the mini and eventually Turbo the GTM

The wiring was a bag of nails

Rewired everything

Turned my attention to the exhaust for the time being as it sounds like a tank.... You can see why lol. I've ordered a stainless RC40 back box and some other bits and pices of tube to make a custom exhaust. I only have the space available that the old exhaust took up so it wont be too easy to fit in. The exhaust manifold is a maniflow cooper freeflow. It will be easier to keep that than fit an LCB.

When I have all the individual pieces of my exhaust ready for assembly would it be better to just clamp it all together rather than weld each piece? I ask this because any previous exhaust failures I have had have been cracks right next to the welds.
One good thing for the future, there is a lot of space for a turbo*smiley*
