Hi,

Strange problem that has become a little worse tonight. I can be in any gear/any speed, when putting my foot down on the loud pedal it'll shoot up the revs as if its spinning the wheels (which it isn't)

I've checked the driveshafts/pot joints and they are fine. Throttle cable does get a little sticky sometimes but when it happens I lift the pedal up with foot and it doesn't seem to be that (it isn't so bad that the pedal stays down stickyness)

Its a 1380 (NA) ultralite flywheel.

Any ideas? Is the throttle cable the culprit?

Cheers

Clutch is slipping by the sounds of it Rahul.

Does it mean I need a heavier diaphragm? I changed it to an Orange from grey as the grey was a pain for everyday driving

Clutch plate is fine, I checked it over when I had it all apart last time

have you had the lugs on the back plate machined down a bit to get a bit more clamping force?

May not be returning properly or lug heights not set properly. I doubt it would slip at "any speed" if the diapraghm was a bit light. An N/A 1380 isn't going to be pumping out turbo torque.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Also when you say checked it over did you measure the thickness or just checked for oil contamination?

I haven't checked if the lugs were machined properly, the engine was built before I bought the car, but its all MED stuff so I assume they have taken care of that?

I checked the plate over for thickness and oil was fine in both respects

I'll take it out for a drive again tomorrow and see what it does, I do remember it happening before a week or so but it wasn't so bad.

Cheers guys

!!!! i was just about to post a topic on this. my grey diaphragm is slipping and i was wondering by how much i need to get it machined down? the clutch friction plate is slightly worn (6 paddle) and the backplate and flywheel are a bit scored too. it slips when i have it at 9psi but its fine at 5psi so its badly slipping, it should easily take a hell of a lot more torque than what its getting at 9psi?

sorry for slight hijack :)

Don't want to sound like a BAC, but have a search *wink*

From memory it's about 1.5mm to come of, but you really need to assemble the flywheel and measure your setup. The drive straps need to be as flat as possible.

1.5mm is the generally accepted "safe" amount. But as Andy says get it assembled and when assembled you want the spring in the diapraghm to be near as damn flat for maximum clamping force. You may need to get the spacers for the drive straps slimmed down (or even get larger ones)to them to sit near as damn flat. If they go down "slightly" towards the flywheel this is fine too.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Taken it out this morning and its stopped doing it?

Also changed the wheels now from 10x7 to 10x6 as the Force rims were not liking the bad weather.

My God the steering is so light now!!

Sounds like a good way to f**k up your split rims using them when there is salt on the roads! I would recommend you clean them thoroughly as soon as possible.

Mine came off my other car about 6 weeks ago at the first sign of salt.

Tom,

It wasn't driven when it snowed here, we didn't have much snow at all or salt on the roads but I am guilty of driving it around in the rain *frown*

Out of interest, what do you recommend for cleaning them?

The rev problem seems to have completely disappeared, was fine while out and about today.
